It was a page-turner, but I’m not convinced that it was a work of literature that belonged on bestseller lists for as long as it did. But then again, the only list my book is on is the “books not yet written” list, so that shows what I know.
- My favorite character was the first Nazi Wehrmacht officer who billets at Vianne’s house, and this is the most sympathetic portrayal of a Nazi that I’ve encountered.
- The pace and circumstances of Isabella & Gaeton’s romance was a bit far-fetched.
- This trope appears early in the story
